This is a 3D folded paper chess set of Apple products and their PC counterparts: the pawns are iPods and Zunes, the rooks are iPads and tablet PCs; the knights and bishops are different-size laptops; and for the king and queen, I used monitors and their towers.
I created the patterns in Adobe Illustrator, then printed them on card stock, cut them out, and folded them into 3D models. It required a great amount of precision cutting and folding. For size reference, the iPods are an inch long.
Patterns for the chess pieces. I designed the laptops to be able to open and close.
