I don't really remember making a choice about what I wanted to do as a career, I guess if you have a product designer or problem solving attitude in you these things sort of develop. I was always very mechanically orientated and since I can remember I redesigned household products, invented my own and built prototypes of ideas I had in mind. Drawing complex 3D exploded views was something I loved to do in class when i was supposed to pay attention to something someone believed I needed to concentrate on. I got sucked into the world of digital painting at the age of 19 and this gave me the tools I needed all along, giving me a bit of an edge to evolve my love for product design into a fruitful career that I enjoy with all my heart. I started off doing fine arts and digital art on the side line combined with some mechanical engineering at TUT, I then later moved over to a course in industrial design at TUT but left it as I was unsatisfied with the quality of the teachings, I then moved over to the university of Johannesburg where I completed my course in Industrial Design. After studying I started a freelance business from home which worked very well and landed me a few big jobs with Nando's, redesigning their kitchen systems, cooker, grillers and take away areas. After 6 months I started working for two engineers/lawyers who had a patent firm and needed patent drawings, I now do product designs from Ideanav and run the product design side of the business while still occasionally doing drawings for patents and it has been very enjoyable thus far.
