Tim Kent is an up and coming artist in New York, NY who was my fellow studio mate and friend at 27 Elizabeth in Manhattan. The announcement was for a solo exhibition held in Brooklyn at Grand Street Gallery. The exhibit entitled “27 Paintings” was a really important show for his career, so I chose to keep the cover clean and use rich textures and clean type on the interior.
I manipulated textures found in his paintings in order to create a catchy image that resembles and embodies the experience of his work while juxtaposing the dramatic with the simple. I also used rich materials in order to make the design appear more expensive for the gallery’s small budget. I used a metallic paper as a more cost-effective replacement over metallic pantone inks. The piece is simple yet functions as an informative and interesting piece of visual communication.
