The book's hero, Kjoha Nasriddin, is a famous folk character in Central Asia, whose humorous and satirical stories are an integral part of the intangible cultural heritage of modern Uzbekistan. The main feature of the book is that the illustrations for the stories were created with direct participation of children of preschool educational organisations in Uzbekistan and Germany. The stories are translated in four languages, Uzbek, English, German and Russian.
The patterns between the chapters designed for this project were inspired by the traditional textile design motifs called “Suzani“, a type of embroidered and decorative textiles made in Central Asia. The initial idea for the design motifs was inspired by single elements found in the children’s illustrations within each chapter. Of particular interest is that only three pantone colours were chosen, as a contemporary view of Uzbekistan’s colours, to bind the diverse visual imagery depicted in every illustration, while sustaining a vivid environment throughout the book.
