Modeling and Texture Experiment
Totems started out as an idea to see if I could model a face in Cinema 4d.  I have always had a mental block when it comes to modeling organic elements in Cinema and I have tried multiple times even with in this project to achieve a something that would not cause me to curse myself and rip up the proverbial canvas.  After getting the actual model to a point that I liked, it then became time to start experimenting with textures.  I was looking at a lot of tribal art and sugar skull designs to come up with the main totem's material.  I used a frontal projection mapping to place the material.  I tried doing the UVW mapping technique, but my unwrapped model was a little too unruly to deal with, so I went with the easier texturing method.  After rendering with an alpha channel embedded, I took the render into Photoshop and finished the compositing and color correction.
