Category: Band Artwork, Promotion
Rationale: I play bass in a rock band called Rampant Lion. Along the way, we needed artwork so I started making DIY posters and album covers. This is where my interest in design really took off.
Video: “Who is Rampant Lion?” is an 8-minute documentary highlighting the three unique personalities that make up the band and the city they call home.
Posters: The Island Tour poster was influenced by old tourism/gift shop maps that featured out-of-scale landmarks and city identifiers. The second poster is a nod to the Port of Vancouver and all the stranded people in the Downtown Eastside. The third poster is an Escher-inspired stairway to the lion’s eye. The last poster example features a geometric, semi-kaleidoscope design similar to artwork I did as a teenager.
Albums: For “Mirror Distortion” (2014) a friend’s broken cellphone screen permanently displayed a rainbow of pixels in a very unique pattern that became the cover. “Endless Night Nameless City” (2016) was a tape cassette release with a 1970’s, Scorcese-esque theme.
