This is an interior design project for a small cafe in the city centre of Tartu, Estonia. The cafe is located at the first floor of the city library. While designing the place I took into consideration the building, the image of the cafe and people who will be visting it. The libary has rather Soviety feel about it, but the cafe itself has a modern image. The main customers are mostly middle-aged women who work there and visitors of the library. I wanted to create something that would be modern, but would also fit into context of the building; and would feel familiar enough for the people who visit the cafe on a daily basis.

For you who are not that familiar with the Soviet design and interior, the elements from that era are the wallpaper (although not original), glass light shades and high stools. The tables and the counter is also dsigned by me and made by Wesse furniture (www.wesse.ee)
