*Totally noncommercial specialty beers. Brewed by a friend for a music festival.

 

Context: Magna Ale is a unique farmhouse ale brewed for and inspired by the Phish festival Magna Ball. Brewed by Invictus Brewing (a friends home operation), he requested I make some labels for his beer.

 

Challenge: Create a label that spoke to the uniqueness of Phish music and the beer. Capture the look and feel of the Music Festival that inspired the name.

 

Solution: Phish design and art has predominately had a 70’s and 80’s Pschedelia feel. With Magna Ball they took a modern and minimalist turn with the design. Thin typefaces and geometry in the advertisments. They also referenced neon and laser lighting. I used a similar typeface for the information on the label and subtle serif on the name to give it some typographic character. The background of the label sports a neon blue color palatte, and each label has a different geometric arrangement. This gives each beer a unique look as wild and subtle as the music of Phish itself.
