'Siribiris' Sinhala Typeface

'Siribiris' Sinhala Typeface
 Typography

This is a typography project based on a Sri Lankan newspaper cartoon character. The character named “Siribiris” was created by Camillus Perera, a famous newspaper cartoonist in Sri Lanka. The “Siribiris” cartoon strip has been going on for over 40 years and is well known especially among the older generation.

Curves and bends in the letters were inspired by the curves and bends of the character's face, nose, hands, feet and joints. The poster was meant to look like an election poster. The idea was to utilise the character to promote himself, and in return, the font. Siribiris wears a unique piece of head gear on all cartoons, and hence, I decided to use it as the symbol for the political party on the election poster.
