AI Generated Arts are very popular recently. After seeing so many beautiful scenes and portraits, I have an idea: Can I use AI to generate Automotive Design Sketches?

Well, the results are not bad, the "Overview" is nice, but the "details" are not good enough. Please have a look of the sketches below, which are all created by AI, no manual modification attached:

Will AI replace the work of designers? NO! I believe in the foreseeable future, it's definitely NO!

Here are the reasons:

* The way how current AI works determined this: The AI only "reprocesses" the existing resources on the Internet. As for what is processed, the AI doesn`t care. Therefore, the designs of AI are always "facing the past", they are all "modifications" of current or old models, not really "future-oriented" creations.

* Automotive design, especially mass production car design, is a huge system. A design solution needs to comprehensively consider space, cost, safety, ergonomics, mechanical structure, etc, Rather than just looking good.

* Based on the pseudo-random seed system, the creativity of AI has a natural boundary. Human beings, as part of the randomness of the real world, have clearly larger boundaries than AI. I think this is also the ultimate advantage for all creators in the future when facing AI.

However, the progress of AI is very fast. I believe that in the near future, we can see AI in the fields of Advanced Design and Concept Car. These fields are less restrictive and more accepting of unrestrained imagination; it should be a feasible way of working that AI creates preliminary designs, then designers select and refine them. The same goes for car modification business.
