Laurel Hill Cemetery Brand Concept

Laurel Hill Cemetery is an iconic place to visit in Philadelphia. Positioned on either side of the Schuylkill River, the organization has two cemeteries, a funeral home, and the Friends of Laurel Hill, a group dedicated to restoration, preservation, and programming for the community.

The company was looking for a family of logos that could represent their four entities, as well as a parent logo to represent the umbrella organization. The concept was inspired by
the physical space—pairing font families that are representative of the array of typography found amongst tombstones, and uses an arch motif that can be found repeatedly in the architecture and monuments throughout the cemeteries. A simple laurel leaf silhouette gives a nod to the name and adds an elegant touch to the brand. The color palette is inspired by the life and death cycle of nature, shown through the four seasons.

Although this concept was not chosen, I had a lot of fun creating it. It would be a shame for it to go to the design graveyard on my hard drive, so I'm sharing it here for anyone to enjoy. :)
