The Pitcairn Miscellany is a newsletter concerning Pitcairn Island and its inhabitants. Since it was first launched in April 1959, only few interruptions have hindered its monthly publication.
The newsletter is aimed at people all over the world with an interest in the island, its history and its isolated lifestyle. Though mostly by online subscription, a print edition is also available. Due to the isolation of the island, shipments of the newsletter may take several months.
My aim with this project was to add more value to the print edition of the newsletter by designing it as a newspaper. This might encourage more people to subscribe to the print edition, hopefully leading to more profit for the islanders. The newspaper would be sold through subscription online, and in the general store on Pitcairn for cruise tourists.
In the center of the newspaper is a cultural supplement called The Pitkerner. This section focuses specifically on the people on Pitcairn and puts their unique culture in focus. This section is differentiated by using orange as the main color, setting it apart from the use of turquoise throughout the rest of the newspaper.
