A quick Character Study with TeMika Grooms

My family on my mother's side is from South Georgia. I remember visiting farms as a child and had family that farmed and raised livestock. We still own land there too. My grandparents (and my father) were sharecroppers in South Carolina.

I have only an inkling of a green thumb but I value putting my hands in the soil, cultivating food, and sharing seeds with friends (anyone need some collard green seeds? LOL!) I know and value #BlackFarmers.

Today I remembered a book I wrote and illustrated in 2015 in Maya Gonzalez ChildrensBook mentorship rooted in social activism. #KendallRaeJohnson https://www.agrowkulture.com/ (with her vivacious 6-year-old self) reminded me of the story I started 6 years ago.

Maybe she needed to be born for me to see why I need to pull the story back out again.
