DREAM BIG OR DREAM LITTLE

Day 11 - #FocusOnYourAGame Live Streaming Challenge

I get the familiar art pitch at least a couple times a week, by email, messenger, text, DM, voicemails: Hey, we like your art for a project but we do not pay until we sell something.

I am very familiar with this pitch and it involves a lot of drawing time from me and no immediate payment from the project principals. I am to wait on any payments after the project is a success and the millions in profits are ready to be shared. I do not shy away from a discussion, however I like to negotiate early.

Any of these pitches will involve apparel, comics, animations and most recently, NFTs. I have a compensation number ready, no matter the project because I have to get paid for my work now. Not later, not IF.

I have to get paid for my work.

Sometimes the conversation stops the moment I start negotiations, sometimes I am ghosted and ever so often I will get a "You are too expensive" response.

DREAM BIG OR DREAM LITTLE is my go to reason why a potential project thinks I am too expensive. The project is expected to bring in millions, if successful. So paying me thousands for the art is not in your budget?

Remember, without art, there is no project. Without a project the millions of dollars in profits are not possible.

Your art is needed. Projects need to respect your art, they need to respect your talents and value your work with payment.

If you don't earn with your art, then someone else will.
