Description

Today we are looking at mashing up two concepts ripped from the public domain.

Variable width woodcutsopen source 3d models.

After taking a peruse through PublicDomainReview.org I came across a nice article detailing portraiture done with a single variable-width spiral: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/mellan-sudarium-of-saint-veronica. Immediately I was reminded of a technique Ben Marriott showed off on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49yGMuVF3C0 that produces very similar results. With some tweaks, maybe we can get something similar.

BUT there is an added detail in the piece. Not only do we have variable width, but the line seems to deform over the topography of the image. So there must be something we can achieve with the depth of an image. And where can we acquire depth information? How about a 3d model from Sketchfab, a massive database of CC licenced models.

  1. Everyone good morning morning welcome welcome Hanukkah Kent Vincent Rick hey hey, that's right we're going to do some perusing today. I'm having Abrams and on Saturdays we animate animate things we find inspired by the public domain, the largest domain of assets and objects for us to enjoy. So it's going to be.

  2. It's going to be a good time, I hope. I hope it's a good time and even more even more wonderful about it is that hopefully we we can expose people to sort of areas and assets and and histories and artifacts that maybe they wouldn't have looked at otherwise. So it's a combination of walking through museum and then furiously going to a computer to to take notes. So it's going to be a good time. Hey Kevin. Hey Scott, what's going on Scott in the house you wanted us on the weekend?
