In 1994, veterinarian Dr. Susanna Ahrens joined Minnesota Veterinary Hospital in Shoreview, Minnesota, where her special interests include internal medicine, dermatology, acupuncture, and dentistry. One of only a fraction of veterinary practices in the United States accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, the facility provides diagnostic care, surgery, and other treatments for small animals. Dr. Susanna Ahrens, an associate veterinarian, also served as Medical Director of Minnesota Veterinary Hospital for nearly a decade. In this capacity, she instituted and reviewed medical protocols; oversaw hiring, training, and equipment purchases; and managed staff. In addition, the medical professional served as an associate veterinarian at Burnhaven Veterinary Hospital in Burnsville, Minnesota.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Susanna Ahrens, DVM, excelled academically. A recipient of a Golden Key International Honour Society award and four-year dean’s list member, she earned a Bachelor of Science with honors in Zoology. While completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota, Susanna Ahrens, DVM, volunteered in The Raptor Center and in wildlife rehabilitation efforts. She also trained in small-animal veterinary acupuncture at the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine, Inc., in Gainesville, Florida, long before the practice became common.

Dr. Ahrens has shared her expertise with All Dog Rescue, the Animal Humane Society in Minneapolis-St. Paul, and other animal-welfare groups, and she volunteers at a local hospice as well. She and her family support Ethiopian Kids Community and Ethiopians for Ethiopians. The skilled veterinarian participated in track and cross country in high school, competing in two state cross country championships, and she has continued to run, completing three marathons. A senior deacon and Sunday School teacher at Olivet Congregational Church in St. Paul, Dr. Susanna Ahrens holds memberships in the King Boreas Toastmasters Club, for which she previously served as an officer; and in several professional organizations.
