Hi, I’m Radhika! I am a designer with almost 10 years of experience in the games and learning space.

During my time at Mozilla Foundation, I developed content for the launch of an online code editor called Thimble and worked on Badge criteria for a city-wide Open Badges pilot at Chicago Summer of Learning. I contributed my design thinking expertise towards defining and visualizing new ways to represent badge system design approaches. This led to the design of BadgeDeck, a prototype badge system design toolkit including a set of cards and game-like activities.

Previously, as Game Designer and founding staff member at Institute of Play, I had the opportunity to be part of the team that started the innovative New York City public school Quest to Learn. Within the school studio, Mission Lab, I collaborated with teachers and content experts to create engaging learning experiences for 6th graders. This included the design of game-based curricula, mini games, art work and materials to support the narrative. My work such as Trouble in Troggleton and Cityhop were mentioned in the New York Times, NPR and PBS- Frontline. I co-wrote the Gamestar Mechanic Learning Guide, an extensive game design and systems thinking curricular resource for the digital game-based tool Gamestar Mechanic. I designed and built the initial websites for Institute of Play and Quest to Learn.

Prior to this at Global Kids, I co-led a youth based after school gaming program Playing for Keeps. I wrote game design curriculum, taught lessons on game design and co-facilitated the design of games based on social issues chosen by the students.

At Scholastic, I designed the user interaction (UI) and user experience (UX) of an interactive online tool for high school students to explore STEM careers.

As a graduate of the MFA Design & Technology program at Parsons The New School for Design, I focused on exploring games as a medium for learning while combining the use of old and new media to create fun, engaging experiences. My game Panchatantra, designed to educate kids on the ancient tales of wisdom from India, was exhibited at the Parsons MFA thesis show and the Games for Change Expo in 2006. My past experience in design and development of interactive online media coupled with a growing interest in games and learning got me involved with youth related projects at Scholastic, Global Kids, Institute of Play and Mozilla.

Currently, I wear my mommy hat and enjoy my adventures in parenting. Read Less
