Pieter received his master's degree at St-Lucas School of Arts in 2008 after which he worked at several agencies in Antwerp and for a short while at the local museum of contemporary art. In 2012 he chose to take matters into his own hands and became a freelancer. Since then Pieter has applied his typographic skills to a broad range of projects, from big commercial gigs to obscure art initiatives, both in Belgium and abroad.

Although his designs often end up as a digital piece, the majority of their development happens outside of a computer. In an ever more automised world, Pieter likes to craft letters the old-fashioned way: with a pencil and loads of tracing paper. Not surprisingly, early to mid-20th-century advertising and pop culture are major influences in his work.

Next to commissions Pieter also creates a lot of personal stuff, constantly exploring new visuals and techniques. Humor is an important factor in all of this, following the mantra that life is too short—or too long—to not have a lot of fun.

As the founder of Antwerp Type Society and member of the letter-crazy collective Analphabetics he shares type knowledge, adorns walls with paint and turns words into art installations. Read Less
