Observation. Without a specific problem to be solved, observation can be the most important aspect of my creative process. Being aware of everyday life, problems, or existing solutions that already exist, can lead to an idea not thought of previously. With an existing problem observation is still very important, attempting to understand a problem by seeing how it is being dealt with currently and what the desired result should be allows for the connection of existing and desired.
Analysis. The step of further examination into the problem opening channels of any possible solutions without judgment, as to allow freedom of ideas.
Research/Preparation. Actual data driven process of information gathering and testing. Researching each possible solution thought of in the analysis step to gather a better idea of the possible feasibility or outcome of each idea.
Ideation. Application of the observation, analysis, research/preparation, steps in a manner that weeds out problems found in the mass of ideas and narrow down to the few best-suited solutions and ideas.
Analysis. As in the previous analysis step there is now further examination into the now fewer solutions or ideas, however now with the data/information from the research/preparation step being factored into how each idea measures up.
Formulation. Beginning to enact all of the previous steps information into forming a complete, concise idea that thoroughly and fully solves the problem or creates a desired result.
Incubation. Similar to others step of ‘play’, it is a loosely focused period of thought around the decided idea/solution. Allows the subconscious to process fully, and leaves room for moments of eureka.
Evaluation. Final step before completion of the idea or solution, use of a possible prototype, system, or other redesign while evaluation performance and other aspects.
Parturition. Actual completion of idea to furthest point possible/allowable by the present situation, the formation of an idea/solution/process/system has to be completed at some point. Continually updating thought around the problem could be and endless pursuit and without enacting the solution in an appropriate amount of time there could likely be a more adapt solution in the very near future.
