Aleksandar Maćašev (Matyashev), born in 1971, is a New York based artist and designer known for his controversial Joseph Goebbels (TM) project in which Joseph Goebbels was depicted as the father of contemporary media culture.
He is best known for the use of advertising and mass media vocabulary in his work, as well as for his elusive professional identity, which fluctuates between applied and fine arts. He targets issues like mass-media culture, religious bigotry, political hypocrisy and making private issues public.

“Aleksandar Macasev’s work ranges from the deceptively simple to the highly political.”
Stephanie Skirvin, PRINT magazine

“Macasev feels comfortable working with galleries and artists, mainly because his own work crosses and recrosses the line between applied and fine art.”
Alice Twemlow, STEP magazine

“His graphic work is challenging, political and often uncomfortable.”
Fiona Sibley, Design Week UK Read Less
