The youngest son of Saidon Pandak Noh and Jamaliah Noordin, Perak-born Hasnul received his initial Diploma in Art & Design (Fine Art) from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 1988, followed by a BFA in Painting from Southern Illinois University USA in 1991 and an MFA in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, USA in 1993.

As an academician, Hasnul has lectured at several local universities in Malaysia. He used to serve as a head of program, deputy dean and director of several art departments, including a university museum and gallery. His expertise has also been sought after under various capacities, including as a director, external examiner, guest lecturer, curriculum design consultant, curator, editor, writer, jury, speaker, facilitator and consultant for various visual art and creative projects as well as academic journals and art publications.Two of his curatorial works have been listed as among the top visual art exhibitions in Asia by Art It magazine.

Throughout his creative practice, Hasnul has been engaged in various states of trans-disciplinary and multi-dimensional practices which include painting, drawing, installation, digital print, video and new media art, exhibition design, stage design, graphic and communication design. Hasnul also writes and performs his own songs, fusing traditional instruments with acoustic guitar to create participative folk music he calls Kebun Bunyi. He has also been involved in experimental performances and theater productions as art director, technical director, production and stage designer. Known as one of the early proponents of electronic, video and new media art in Malaysia and South East Asia, Hasnul has also participated in many international and local exhibitions and screenings, including for examples, the 2nd. and 3rd. Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Brisbane Australia. His works have been exhibited and screened in Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Hawaii, Republic of Czech, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Canada and the United States of America. Hasnul has also won several local and international awards, including Atlanta Film & Video Festival Award (USA), National Artist Award (Trans-dimensional Artist), Malaysian Young Contemporaries, Philip Morris Art Awards, and ASEAN New Media Awards. He was recently voted as one of the top ten Best Contemporary Artists in Malaysia by Culturetrip Asia.

Other than lecturing several courses as an associate professor of electronic and new media art at a local public university, Hasnul has been engaged in various creative workshops on mind improvement and wellness, combining elements of both the arts and sciences.

Hasnul lives and works in the island state of Penang, Malaysia, whilst struggling to master the zen of doing nothing.
