A medical professional with more than a decade of experience, Dr. Geoffrey Mountvarner serves as Chief of Emergency Medicine at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Mountvarner is responsible for the operations of the substantial department that treats 58,000 patients in an area designed for barely more than half that number. His goal is to improve patient care and develop strategies for the increasing volume of individuals in need of emergency treatment. Dr. Mountvarner has created a leadership team to address these goals, which has resulted in the department increasing its volume more than similar medical facilities. In addition, Dr. Mountvarner is an Assistant Professor and Attending at the institution. He is also an Attending Physician at the Emergency Department for St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
From February 2010 through February 2011, Dr. Geoffrey Mountvarner served as the Interim Medical Director and Assistant Fire Chief for the District of Columbia. The position required the oversight of the medical care and protocols for the fire department and emergency medical service for the district. During his tenure, Dr. Mountvarner facilitated the evaluation of nearly 300 advanced life support providers. The innovative measure resulted in the retraining of approximately 50 professionals and the reinforcement of fundamentals and procedures for the entire force.
Dr. Geoffrey Mountvarner earned a Bachelor of Mathematics from Hampton University. He holds a Medical Degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from Harvard University School of Public Health. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and holds membership in the American College of Emergency Physicians.
