After graduating from Kunstschule Alsterdamm, International School of Graphic Design (Germany), Birger starts his career with Peter Schmidt Group, designing for Becks, Milka and Boss.

He joins Springer & Jacoby, the agency credited with inventing modern German advertising, working for Daimler Chrysler, Unicef and Coke, then with founder Reinhard Springer on holistic brand building projects, creating new brands.

Birger leaves for Singapore to join Saatchi & Saatchi. Working on Toyota, Lexus, HP, Guinness, UOB and the Republic of Singapore Navy, he wins over 100 national and international awards across all media, including Gold at Cannes, Clio, One Show and D&AD. By 2004 he is the most awarded DM creative in Asia. He is ranked in the Top 100 of “Hottest Creatives in Asia” (Campaign Brief) and his “TransMariner” campaign for the Republic of Singapore Navy is ranked No.4 in the world, what makes Saatchi Singapore No.1 DM agency in the world 2005 (Won Report, UK).

Birger joins JWT Vietnam as Creative Director and Head of Art. He works on Ford, Pepsi, SAB Miller, HSBC and Unilever. He helps to double the number of clients, and in 2007 he is the “Hottest Creative in Vietnam” (Campaign Brief), the first judge ever to represent Vietnam at Adfest and Award, and the agency wins the first ever PMAA Gold for Vietnam and Best of Print at the national awards show.

Birger joins TBWA\Vietnam as Executive Creative Director & Partner, overseeing the offices in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. He works on Adidas, Visa, MTV, Standard Chartered Bank and Asia Pacific Breweries. One year later, TBWA wins the first ever D&AD for Vietnam and is the most awarded agency in the country. This is recognized with the Global Award for Brand Leadership in 2009. Birger writes a bi-weekly column on marketing.

Birger joins Group Edge as Group Executive Creative Director, integrating their operations (Advertising, Digital, CRM) in Bangkok, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi while working on Diageo, JTI, Mead Johnson, Beiersdorf, Unilever and Samsung. He becomes a member of the advisory council of Vietnam Marcom and University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City.

Birger returns to JWT as Senior Regional Creative Director, based in Shanghai. He looks after Ford Asia Pacific & Africa, integrating the creative output of JWT and Wunderman on this account, and oversees the global launch of the Ranger and Fiesta name plates. As Chairman of the Creative Committee “Social Marketing”, Birger continues his advisory role in Vietnam.

Birger joins Leo Burnett Shanghai as Group Creative Director. He works on Heineken, Skoda, Siemens and is in charge of the 2012 Olympic communication for Coke China, achieving record-breaking numbers within the global organization of 400 Million online views of the campaigns first phase alone – without ATL media investment.

Birger moves to client side as Director Marketing & Design of Da Paolo Group, Singapore. For the producer of gourmet food he streamlines operations, positions the company, overseas the redesign of outlets and of more than 300 products, honored by the Red Dot Award for high design quality, the launch of the company’s online shop, introduces social media to the communication mix and prepares the company for franchise.

Birger returns to China as Creative Director at BBDO Interone Beijing. He looks after BMW, Rolls-Royce, and Mini, producing the world's first WeChat ad, resulting in over 180 Million views within the first week of the BMW 1-Series launch campaign, and the first sunlight-activated social media message within WeChat for the launch of the Rolls-Royce Dawn. Birger is promoted to Group Creative Director.

Birger joins Ogilvy & Mather Beijing as Group Creative Director, where he is responsible for all Nestlé brands, the agency's biggest account. Within his first 3 months, his 'Gr8 Debate' campaign for 8 Cubes reaches over 530 Million views, picking up a certificate of excellence at SABRE, and is shortlisted at the Effies.

Birger’s work is featured in numerous publications around the world, including Contageous, Communication Arts, Campaign Brief, Financial Times, Novum, Page, The Work and Ads of the World.com, Marketing, "Design Exposed" by Steven Heller & Mirko Ilic (Rizzoli USA), "Take-out Food Packaging" by Images Publishing, as well as on national television in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, India and Korea.

Birger is a member of D&AD and The Design Society Singapore, and was a judge at London International Advertising Awards, New York Festival, Adfest, Australian Award, Pinasthika Ad Festival Indonesia, DM Asia, AdStars Korea, Young Guns, Golden Bell Award Vietnam, Vega Digital Awards, and panel chairman at the Chillies Sri Lanka and Singapore Creative Circle Awards.

In his freetime, Birger lectures throughout Asia and works on design projects.
