A student at Lewis & Clark Law School, Zach Pilchen expects to graduate in 2013 with a Juris Doctor and a Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resource Law. Pursuing his professional interests in those subjects, Pilchen serves as Associate Editor of Environmental Law, a law review for which he formerly summarized recent environmental case law as a member of its Ninth Circuit Review. In the top 7 percent of his class, he has also participated in numerous moot court competitions. Zach Pilchen garnered Outstanding Appellate Brief and Outstanding Oral Advocacy honors in the Lewis & Clark First-Year Moot Court Program, ranked as a National Finalist and Regional Winner during the National Moot Court Competition, and most recently qualified for the National Animal Law Competition.

Supplementing his studies, Zach Pilchen has held several clerkships in the legal field. He worked for two summers as an honors law clerk for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In his first year working in the Office for Compliance, Pilchen drafted memoranda on the agency's inspection authority, wrote portions of a "next generation" compliance manual, and assisted with document review for the Deepwater Horizon Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The following year, he joined worked in the Office of Civil Enforcement's Waste & Chemical Enforcement division, where he worked on numerous matters involving RCRA and TSCA § 6(e).
