Steven Leshem, D.V.M., is a West-Hartford-based, board-certified veterinary surgeon who practises with the Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut. A full-service veterinary clinic with surgical and pharmaceutical facilities, the Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut’s staff comprises primary care veterinarians, specialists in medicine and surgery, and a certified physical therapist.

Dr. Steven Leshem is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons as of 2009. He is also a member of the American, Connecticut, and Hartford County Veterinary Medical Associations. Dr. Leshem earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 2000. He has completed two internships, one in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery and another in Surgery with the Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut, and Nevada, respectively. Steve Leshem, D.V.M., completed his residency in Small Animal Surgery at Iowa State University, where he served as an adjunct professor and published peer-reviewed research from 2005 to 2008. Steve Leshem, D.V.M., also gained experience working in progressive veterinary practices in Colorado, between 2001 and 2004.

Outside of his work at the Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut, Steven Leshem, D.V.M. is also a firm supporter of numerous non-profits and charitable organizations. He is a longtime backer of UNICEF, East Hartford’s Protectors of Animals Adoption Clinic, and Connecticut’s H.O.P.E. Clinic, a high-quality, reduced-cost spay and neuter clinic for cats and dogs that is the only one of its kind in the state. During his time at Tufts University, Dr. Leshem founded and served as the President of the Tufts P.A.W.S. program, which helps people with immune system problems keep their pets. He served as a coordinator and instructor for the Gap Junction student outreach program in 1998 and 1999, a program designed to provide supplementary science education for inner-city K-8 students.

Dr. Steven Leshem is a supporter of the Schecter Day School and the Beth Israel Synagogue. He enjoys hiking, cycling, skiing, and snowboarding, as well as playing sports. He also likes to read and listen to music in his spare time. Read Less
