Kasal spent 15 years as principal of William Blair and Company, preceded by work at PaineWebber and Lehman Brothers.

Before beginning his career at PaineWebber in 1984, Brian L. Kasal attended Northern Illinois University, where he earned a BA in Economics. He was awarded an MBA from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business in 2006, and was an early investor in the Hyde Park Angels, an angel investing group closely associated with the school's Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship.

Kasal has long been involved in politics, as well, serving as a Republican Precinct Committeeman in DeKalb County before moving to Chicago and becoming involved there. He was co-chair of George W. Bush's Bush Chicago campaign effort in 2000, and currently serves as state chair of the Illinois Energy Commission.

Committed to philanthropy, Brian Kasal is a member of the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy, a network that supports advisors in philanthropic planning.
