Tommy is a hairstylist with a wide, very divergent and loyal customer base. Customers keep coming back because of his very personal touch. ‘I don’t work in one particular style, or according the ‘latest’ fashion. The interesting thing about fashion isn’t uniformity, but diversity that it can project. Fashion is mostly time bound, but I’m more interested in the timeless aspect of someone’s personality.”
“I can really empathize with clients. I’m curious what the character is behind every customer, which helps me to give a haircut that fits the person. It doesn’t matter who is in the chair. Customers have their own story, each one totally different then the other one. That’s why my work is never boring. It’s really exciting when you can evoke someone’s expression with just a little change in a desired or wanted hairdo. The art is to add a little addition just beyond the customer’s expectation. Not too much, or else it won’t make sense any more. The appearance should stay believable or else the shape will distract and that will take away the focus of what it’s really about: strengthen the identity. Nothing is more satisfying when customers leave with a smile and being self-conscious with themselves. Self-consciousness gives you more power then just going along with the prevailing view.”
“I have a very wide broad public interest. I’m always looking for inspirations, for new developments and I always try to stay ahead. I find it very important to live in the NOW, to really pay attention to everything that’s happening around me. To really feel what is happening and what moves people.”

The store itself is continually changing, stocked with interesting books and magazines, and an ‘every 8 month changing’ interior, every time designed by different artists. The store has a very large display value. Tommy makes full use of the striking interior and gives the shop a striking place in the streetscape. Read Less
