Steven Starfas is an artist who works in mixed media, photography, painting and sculpture. He was born in Ventura, California in 1975. He graduated in May 1999 with a B.F.A. in photography at the San Francisco Art Institute. Starfas has had one person shows at the at the Roshambo Gallery and Winery in Healdsburg and Octavia’s Haze Gallery in San Francisco. He has also been featured in several group shows at galleries and alternative spaces throughout the nation, such as, Trannie at White Cube in New York, Current Works 2001 at the Society For Contemporary Photography in Kansas City, B.A.C.A. 18th Annual National Juried Exhibition at the Berkeley Art Center, and While Exploring the Necessary at the Rizzoli Gallery in San Francisco. He was a 1998 recipient of the Bonita McFarland Scholarship from the Ventura County Museum of History and Art, a 1996 recipient of the Sobel Scholarship from the San Francisco Art Institute, and the VC foundation Photography Award from Ventura College. Starfas was co-founder of The Boon Project that sponsored three community art projects that explored thoughtful integration of all facets of being: Untitled 9.31.01, a weekend intensive collaborative installation and opening reception involving 25 local artist. The P.O.E. Project - Peace on Earth in Red White and Blue, a show of paintings by 30 local artist interpreting the meaning of peace in midst of international conflict. The TV Show, a juried exhibition of works commenting on the reality and culture-shaping role of television and electronic media. Starfas lives and works in San Francisco. Read Less
