Growing up with ADHD that continued as I was an adult, I found it difficult to finish long-term tasks because I'd eventually get frustrated and start something else, or get bored and want to try something more challenging. It was a constant inner struggle to make long-term goals because I didn't have my ADHD under control. It wasn't until 2005 when I started to re-evaluate my life and begin to make long-term goals. I got a job at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Shortly after starting, I took advantage of tuition benefits and was both a student and an employee. I was beginning to understand the important goals I was working toward, and I was excited. It was a struggle and I wanted to give up many times because there were far too many challenges I had to endure, but challenges were exactly what I needed to help control my ADHD. Not only have I had the same job for over 11 years, I now have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Studio: Graphic Design and Sculpture. I couldn't be more proud of my accomplishments. I feel like I'm on fire.
