Inspired by his father -an insect-photographing anthropologist/medical professor- and his mother -a medical analist/sculptor with a darkroom- Sander started photographing at age 10.
Sander won his first photography prize with a snapshot of his cats at the age of ten. Most of his youth was spend in the woods of Drenthe (Netherlands) and in the darkroom of his mom, and sailing. At 18 he did spend time in the military, went traveling, picked wine, tried studying cultural anthropology, teached windsurfing and sold photographic equipment for a few years. Running through life he always photographed, but he never thought making a living out of photography would be possible. After finally studying photography at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague (NL) and working in several big commercial photo studios he became a freelance photographer in 2002.
In Rotterdam (NL) he shot mostly corporate work: portraits, events, reportages and advertising photography. He also teached photography at SKVR (NL) to adults and children in a inspiring and dynamic way.

After having moved to Brussels with his family he made his first story for a Dutch newspaper on Kuregem (Anderlecht, Brussels).
These images were also sold to international newspapers, and that's where the beginning of his journalistic career took off.
He now is specialized in visual storytelling and photographing portraits for (inter)national editorial clients like the New York Times, Financial Times, Le Soir, Le Monde, Handelsblatt, NRC, De Standaard, and many more.

Sander de Wilde won several photography prizes like the Belgian Belfius Award on photojournalism (2012) and two times 2nd prize at the Silver Camera (NL) Awards 2013 ( foreign news).

His work is being distributed by agencies like Corbis, ImageDesk.be and Getty assignments. Read Less
