Santiago Rodríguez

Designer

Bogota, Colombia
My name is Santiago Rodriguez, I am a Graphic Designer and Researcher. My practice revolves around establishing conversations and opening spaces for reflection and discussion for unheard voices, my work aims to expand the boundaries of knowledge and cultural exchange through the range of disciplines converging within Art Direction, Editorial Design and Publishing, often taking the role of listener, mediator and communicator. I understand my design practice as transversal for the creation of knowledge, finding strategies for conversations to emerge between the different actors within a community. Currently my practice is driven by the dynamics of the global south and the experiences and stories that arise from people and communities in these geographies. I have developed several projects with different communities from Colombia and other countries. Over 8 years of experience in different design fields such as editorial design, branding, photography, art direction and exhibition design. Working for United Nations, Arts Collaboratory, Shanghai Biennale and self initiated projects.

Work Experience

CARMA Journal

Art Director - Editorial Committee

Colombian Artistic Research Magazine CARMA is an interdisciplinary art journal, reviewed by academic peers, with a focus on artistic research. This publication seeks to be available to all disciplines as a meeting point to build a horizontal language, which allows knowledge to circulate between individuals of different academic spheres. So far, we have succeeded in getting contributions of over 50 creatives, researchers and practitioners from all over the world, whilst providing a platform for emerging creators and researchers to publish their work, the magazine established a conversation between different disciplines, media and methods to create knowledge.

4-18 Foundation

Senior Designer

We developed creative tactics and educational activities between the problems that affect a community (environmental, political and economical) and the community itself, seeking to create alternatives to such situations through sustainable economic and environmental artistic proposals, promoting collective mobilization. Our greatest interest lies in visualizing and supporting processes of social cohesion, particularly communities seeking to preserve the environment and traditional knowledge.
In 4-18 we have managed to impact communities all over Colombia like Bogotá, Medellín, Honda, Bucaramanga, Maní and Pore, Barranquilla, Leticia (Amazonas), Popayán and outside in New York, Chicago, London and Shanghai.
