My partner and I own a small side business upcycling used vinyl billboards and sign banners into bags and other durable goods. My responsibilities include product design, creative direction on materials usage, pattern production, sewing, and assembly, as well as communications, marketing, design, and sales for our products.

As manager of the book design department of Mosby, Inc. (now Elsevier, Inc.), I developed book and packaging designs for select Mosby titles; directed the purchase and art direction of art programs for book division; maintained graphic and publishing standards for book division; hired, supervised and trained design staff; developed yearly departmental budgets.

I have worked with the St. Louis-based medical publisher Mosby (now Elsevier, inc.) almost continuously as a full time employee or as a freelancer since 1993. My periods of full time employment as a designer spanned June 1993 to October 1995, April 1996 to August 1999, and September 2007 to May 2008. (I was also employed as the Art Director of the department, listed separately. I ended my full-time employment with Elsevier after the birth of my second child.)
Responsibilities included working with editorial teams to develop interior and cover designs for medical, nursing, and allied health text and reference books; designing packaging for accompanying multimedia projects; supplying written type specifications for interior styles; production of covers and multimedia packaging; hiring and directing freelance design,
photography, and illustration work when appropriate.

Design and production of various projects such as corporate identities, brochures, and booklets; worked with teams to develop annual report concepts; continued design and layout of ongoing projects such as newsletters for corporate clients.
