Reneé Cagnina Haynes is the Exhibitions and Publications Manager with the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. Since joining the Nasher Museum's curatorial team in 2009, she has helped to manage a number of touring exhibitions, including “Nina Chanel Abney: Royal Flush” (curated by Marshall N. Price; travel venues include Chicago Cultural Center, California African American Museum / ICA Los Angeles, and Neuberger Art Museum; accompanied by a 128-page catalogue), "Southern Accent: Seeking the American South in Contemporary Art" (co-curated by Trevor Schoonmaker and Miranda Lash; travel venue included the Speed Art Museum; accompanied by a 276-page catalogue), “Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist” (curated by Richard J. Powell; travel venues included Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Chicago Cultural Center, and the Whitney Museum of American Art; accompanied by a 176-page hardcover catalogue), “Wangechi Mutu: A Fantastic Journey” (curated by Schoonmaker; travel venues included the Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, and the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art; accompanied by a 176-page hardcover catalogue), and “The Record: Contemporary Art & Vinyl” (curated by Schoonmaker; travel venues included the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, Miami Art Museum, and Henry Art Gallery; accompanied by a 216-page catalogue), amongst others.

Cagnina Haynes was the coordinating curator for two, large-scale murals created by visual artist Odili Donald Odita and commissioned by the Nasher Museum of Art in 2015. In addition to overseeing the commissions, she was the production manager and art director for a 15-minute biopic, “Glowing Lines: Odili Donald Odita in Durham,” directed by filmmaker Anna Kipervaser and commissioned by the Nasher Museum. In the spring of 2015, she managed and co-curated "Area 919: Artists of the Triangle," a survey of noteworthy work by 13 artists who live in the Triangle. Her first solo curatorial project with the Nasher Museum was "The Cinematic Impulse,” an exhibition that drew from the Nasher Museum’s permanent collection of contemporary art and explored the intricate relationships between cinema, visual art, and culture.

Cagnina Haynes is currently enrolled in the graphic design program at North Carolina State University and continues to work full time with the Nasher Museum. Over the years she has art directed and managed the museum’s publications program; however, in 2015 she took on the role of also designing the Nasher Museum's exhibition catalogues. The first book published under her design leadership was a 276-page full-color catalogue “Southern Accent,” which she co-designed with Julie Klugman Braude. Cagnina Haynes has since designed “Nina Chanel Abney: Royal Flush” (2017) and is currently developing “Pop América, 1965–1975” with editor and Duke professor Esther Gabara, Ph.D.

Before joining the Nasher Museum, Cagnina Haynes was the Assistant Director of the Flood Gallery Fine Art Center located in Asheville, North Carolina, and the Director of Exhibitions and Artists Services of the Art Center / South Florida in Miami Beach. Read Less
