I started my creative journey with dreams of becoming a screenwriter and then an illustrator. In college I discovered graphic design, started specializing in art direction, then had an advertising industry icon tell me I had the chops of a copywriter too. With such an eclectic mix of skills and interests, I found my way into university education where I've had the pleasure of teaching scores of wonderful students in all of the disciplines above. After 9 years as a university educator, I decided it was time to go back to school to study the philosophy of art and aesthetics in order gain a deeper understanding of the very roots of artistic creativity. At this point in my life, I try to incorporate my academic studies into my classroom as a teacher and my work as a professional designer as much as I can. But I also find myself applying design principles and lessons I've learned as a teacher in my graduate studies. It's a busy but fascinating crossroads.

Upon deciding to pursue my PhD, I transitioned into a freelance role, working remotely from Dallas.

Mudra Institute Of Communication Arts

Visiting Lecturer

I taught a summer course called Creativity in the Indian Context at MICA, India’s premier communications management institute. Though we discussed basic art direction and design principles, our main project was to create a campaign that addressed a culturally-sensitive issue relevant to advertising. The students chose to tackle skin-whitening creams that are widely used as a means to advance one’s social class. At the end of the course, the students presented their work to MICA’s resident faculty who enthusiastically received the campaign as a success. Beyond the classroom, we did workshops at the Delhi and Mumbai offices of Wieden+Kennedy, DDB/Mudra and Ogilvy. On our days off we traveled to a number of
markets, temples and cultural sites around the country.

Responsible for the concept and design of projects large and small. I was exposed to many forms of media: print, outdoor, TV, radio, interactive and point-of-sale.
