Pierce Allston

Student

Champaign, IL, USA
I am Pierce Allston, a recent alumni from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies, as well as a minor in Urban & Regional Planning. I am attending the University of Michigan Ann-Arbor from the Fall of 2015 thru the Spring of 2017.

Sophomore year was the fist year of studio, focusing on the basics of design. Both semesters of sophomore year focused on hand drafting, hand modeling, and abstract design processes.

Junior year first semester studio is based on landscapes, with a more abstract approach to architecture. Second semester looks at the built environment in an urban context.

Senior year included a comprehensive project of a boutique hotel in downtown Champaign. Second semester, although optional, consisted of a pair project that focused on integrative social housing on the north side of Chicago.

Work Experience

Divane Brothers Electric Company

CAD Intern

I interned at Divane Bros. Elec. Co in the summer of 2013. The first 2 and a half weeks consisted me of working out of their satellite office on the south side of Chicago working directly with the renovation of the South Red Line stations, working as a personal CAD assistant for the Project Manager. I visited the stations, creating drawings for the contractors in the field. This required me to go in depth at the stations, having to understand the technical field of electrical work and it's relation to the construction process as well as it's relationship to the architectural plans.

Diavne saw my potential, and brought me to their main office to work directly in their CAD office. There, I worked directly with a bid that Divane had won for the new Green Line station located at Cermak. My work varied from 3D modeling, writing up Requests for Informations, updating schedules as well as creating electrical line drawings. This varied work on the Cermak station allowed me to fully appreciate and understand the station as a whole, having to interpret Architectural, Structural, Electrical and Plumbing plans.
