Prof. Dr. Neil Niren MD, PhD, Head of the "Preventive Medicine" to St. John’s Clinic in Philadelphia

Dr. Neil Niren graduated from the Medical Academy in Philadelphia in 1973. In 1979 he graduated clinical residency with acquisition of first degree "Pneumology and physiatrics" and in 1988 acquired a second major on "occupational diseases". In 1988 Niren defended a thesis on "medical doctor" with thesis "Late forms of silicosis and silico-tuberculosis" and in 2005 received a degree "Doctor of medical sciences" after their thesis "Dust occupational lung diseases inorganic powders ". In November 1987 he participated in the international seminar under the WHO theme "Early Detection and Prevention of Health Impairment Related to Work", held in Lodz, Poland. In 1995 Neil Niren completed a course in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics faculty of Erasmus University, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, based on Department of Social Medicine and Public Health, Medical University; in 2001 Neil Niren MD completed a course in Health Management (200 h.), and in 2005 participated in the weekly workshops at BAM.

From 1974 onwards, Neil Niren MD works as an intern in the Rheumo-cardiologic department in primary hospital district, Pittsburgh. In the period between 1975 and 1979, he was a clinical intern at the Institute of Lung Diseases and internal clinics of the Medical Academy in Philadelphia. In 1979,Dr. Niren becomes a doctor in the Thoracic Clinic of the National Institute of Oncology, Philadelphia. Afterwards, in 1979 he is consistently a resident in surgery in pulmonary function tests, Specialized LEMC of occupational diseases. Neil becomes a fellow Prof. in pulmonary department, and an assistant professor (Head of Sector, Head of Department of pneumoconiosis) v. n. a. Prof. in the pulmonary department at the Clinic of Occupational Diseases. Afterwards his accomplishments continue growing, as he becomes a member and chairman of the diagnostic - expert committee under professional diseases . From 2002 to 2010 he becomes the Head of Clinic of Occupational Diseases, University Hospital "St. Paul" in Philadelphia. From 01.12.2010, Neil Niren MD is the head of the "Preventive Medicine" at “St. Paul", Philadelphia.

Dr Neil Niren is the author of over 220 scientific publications (145 articles, 3 separate monographs, 4 appearances in monographs, participation in 6 and manuals and participated in 60 congresses and conferences at home and abroad (Poland, Greece, Turkey, Yugoslavia, France, Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Spain, etc.). After 1995, Niren is a supervisor and participant in two grant projects under the Board of Education and Board of Finance in Philadelphia. In 1997 Neil Niren MD participated in a joint US-Bulgarian project: "Advanced Training Workshop in Environmental and Occupational Health for Senior American Environmental Scientists ", funded by" Fogarty International Center Program on Environmental Health ", Michigan State University, USA. In 2003 he was head of the scientific-practical project entitled" Program for diagnosis, early diagnosis, registration and service system dust lung diseases in the mining industry and asbestos exposed workers ", funded by FUT, MLSP. In 2004 directs scientific practical project entitled" Project to improve national practice signaling, research, validation and registration of occupational diseases and adaptation and to the European guidelines for development in this area ", funded by FUT, MLSP. In 2008 Neil Niren directs the scientific and practical project "Programme for prevention and early diagnosis of occupational diseases in chugonoleeneto at us," and in 2009 guided the scientific and practical project "Programme for prevention and early diagnosis of occupational diseases in the mining industry in the country ". Prof. Niren is a longtime member of the "American Society of lung diseases", and from 2008 chairman of the newly formed American Society of professional diseases. He is also a distinguished Member of the European Respiratory Society (ERS).

For 31 years Dr Neil Niren MD taught "Occupational diseases" as assistant professor and professor in the Department of occupational diseases at the Medical University of Philadelphia and 7 years - English-language training for international students at Bulgaria, Pleven. Read Less
