After completing her BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture and Environmental Design at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD, Mya traveled internationally, making connections and forming her personal mythology. In 2013, she started her year long residency at Sloss Metal Arts in Birmingham, AL. There, among the industrial decay, Mya's compiled writings hinted at a desire to build her own reality. Now settled in Seattle, WA, Mya is studying Holistic Landscape Design at Bastyr University, filling in her missing link to entwine the studio, garden, and kitchen. Read Less

My practice incorporates painting, making sculpture, and drawing. Despite differences, each medium calls for a prioritization of process and the interaction of materials. My work is influenced by a structure I believe flows through all things. By following these connections we can find our own location and establish a sense of self.

I look to my memories to inform my work. As I collect stories, I gather elements, found or sketched, and store them. Over time, personal folklore defines each role and allows for association. This personification is the root of my work. Creating compositions, which reflect my experiences, I address connectivity through constructed, material relationships. Read Less
