I'm a designer and software developer trained in architecture. I was lucky in that I could guide my
education in architecture to the exploration of software design tools for other architects and designers and to responsive and sensitive spaces that included user interfaces.

I love to work with groups discussing technical details and translating these into exciting designs for users to leverage. The elegance and robustness of design is most important to me, no matter if the medium is a space, an interface, a backend system or an algorithm.

Rendering and Realtime Development

Deadline experience using multiple industry standard 3d modeling, animation, and rendering packages. Efficiently communicating designs to professionals and the public using realtime interactive visual engines such as Unity 3d and Flash. Created walkthrough and information sharing applications for architects and clients using Unity.

Rapid Prototyping + CNC

Conducted independent research constructing a CNC router to aid in architectural modeling and fabrication. Fabricated machine and electronics to route 2d and 3d models and prototypes. Self-taught CAM software to effectively draw tool paths and generate g-code. Leveraged these tools to not only produce faster, but to push limits.

Machine/Computer Vision + Interactive Architecture Research

While conducting independent research I developed skills working with interactive technologies: micro controllers, sensing, data logging, signal processing, and home automation. I also worked with common machine vision algorithms, and scripting in vbscript and flash action script. Using these tools I designed and installed a new type of home security system into an existing home that made use of cameras watching various parts of the home.

Developed schematic proposals and initiated design development of Design Innovation Garage incubator project.
Prepared renders and plans for proposals and constructed physical models. Modeling using rhino and grasshopper.

Digital Pipeline Researcher

Worked with a team of students to introduce digital manufacturing techniques to the staff at Boston Valley TerraCotta, including: photogrametry, digital sculpting, 3dprinting of molds, and cnc routing of mold parts. These tools will speed up documentation, prototyping, and construction of terra cotta tiles, facades and sculptures. Worked to control an industrial turntable for photogrametric process using PLC and Arduino, filtering noise in a factory environment.

Built Custom 5 axis CNC machine for SUNY Buffalo school of Architecture, selected and installed all electronic components, helped to construct all portions of machine frame and linear movement systems. Worked to test and create instructions for custom 5 axis software developed by Edmund Harris (CAMel) grasshopper plugin for rhinoceros.

Performed Buffalo zoning code and agricultural research and created a visual index for existing zoning codes. Proposed insertion of urban agricultural program into downtown Buffalo industrial districts. Renderings in Maya for Autobahn society proposals and electronics setup/enclosure for thermal camera intended for watching birds and bat habitats.

Graduate Researcher

Conducted research on disabled population’s access to public transportation in Buffalo. Worked directly with participants, fitting motion capture markers and power supply systems. Recorded participant time trials using Phase Space motion capture system while participants boarded and used full-scale mockup of NFTA bus.
Edited participant video time trials and created procedures for video conversion and backup.
