Michelle was born in Santiago, Chile. She has a diverse range of interests, including music, photography, art, fashion, and most importantly film. She takes her inspiration from many directors, such as Michel Gondry, Peter Weir, Won Kar Wai and Alfonso Cuaron. To further her passion for film, she moved to NYC at the age of 21 to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a film director. She studied cinematography at the New York Film Academy and after graduation, stayed in the city to work in advertising for brands like Coca-Cola and Wall’s, as well as completing several independent film projects on her own. One of her main projects is Astro Son, her first fiction short film outside of school. She wrote and directed the film and cast Justice Winter and Nylda Ria Mark. Astro Son tells the story of Tharir, an 8 year old kid, who wants to become an astronaut to meet his dad. Michelle, singlehandedly, did the cinematography and production design, with the help of an international crew from the US, India, Thailand, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, and Portugal, among others. Astro Son had its worldwide premiere as a part of the official selection of the SANFIC Santiago International Film Festival in 2014, and has been selected to be a part of other festivals in North America, such as the California Women’s Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival Kids.
Michelle’s upcoming film, Queens of Flesh & Blood, now in post-production, is a short film that explores the world of fashion within the streets of New York. Soon to be released, the film is an homage to women trying to make a living in one of the hardest cities in the world, New York City. Michelle, now 24, is currently working on personal projects, as well as working as a director in an advertising production company called Guau Films. Read Less
