I was born and raised in a loving family of four, with my father, mother, and younger brother. Both my parents excelled during their academic years: my mother graduated from the National Tsing Hua University, and my father had planned to get his PhD in the US. Although protective of their children, my parents are open to our ideas and support our plans as much as they can. When I was five, my family immigrated to Canada and lived in Vancouver for four years. Thus, I acquired my bilingual ability.
I have shown talent in the arts since I was a mere child. Having won many drawing competitions and studied in the arts program at Chubei Junior High School, I have always dreamed of becoming an artist. I attended the National Experimental High School and my grades were excellent; therefore, I was accepted into the Foreign Languages Department of the National Taiwan University. However, wanting to see more of the world and become more independent, I decided to attend university abroad. I enrolled in the Theatre Department of the University of Victoria, and stood out as a design student there, winning the praise of my professors. In addition to design, I am also very interested in illustration. Possessing the talent of drawing, I learned how to use Photoshop and PhotoImpact as well as the more traditional drawing techniques such as painting and sketching. Costume construction is also something I am highly confident in. I had learned how to pattern and sew and have since been building costumes according to many of my designs.
The National Experimental High School is known for its various club and student activities. I participated in many of the concerts and performances when I was there; I was the leading vocal in a rock band and was a member of the school choir. In university, I helped with many plays that were being produced in our department, be it working backstage or assisting the designers. Because of my outstanding design abilities, I was recruited to design some shows off-campus, mostly for the local theatre company Theatre Inconnu. I also had the opportunity to work with a short movie production team, participating as the production designer.
My ideal job is, of course, a job relating to design, be it design for the stage, for the screen, or simply illustrations for books or posters. I also dream to experience art all over the world; therefore, it would be wonderful if I could find a job where I can work wherever I want. In the end, I wish to establish my own studio, in which I can accept design cases from clients who need the service. I will keep all this in mind as I take this first step into society, and hopefully something will steer me towards the right direction!
