Maragno Design project, initiated in 2013 by the designer Jean-Charles Kien, is a complex entity which is hard to define. However, it is intrinsically an idea and concept lab, where experimentation, creation and production are the major concerns.

Design finds itself between industry and art, between beauty and technique; here we find ourselves between art and design.

The project aims at exploring the limits between art and design, in order to understand mechanisms that allow the transversality that exists between the two universes.

Tools for thought should be philosophical and esthetic investigations as well as confronting these concepts to the matter.

Maragno design is also a place meant for collaboration and contact across various fields and crafts.

Last but not least, Maragno is an ever evolving entity that should not acknowledge any boundaries. Read Less

Jean-Charles Kien (born 1987) started to study arts before he switched to object design. He graduated from the University of Strasbourg where he got a Master in Design and Architecture. In 2013, he initiated the Maragno design project.

After a high school diploma majoring in science, Jean-Charles began to study Civil Engineering at the University of Padova (Italy).

He was then admitted to the HEAR (Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin) where he spent one year before he left for the visual art field at the University of Strasbourg.

In order to sharpen up his expertise after a bachelor in applied arts, he enrolled in a Master of Architecture and Design in 2010, during which he focused his research on assembly and transversality between arts, design and architecture.

It eventually turned concrete during his diploma work as a product developer in the prestigious design company Foscarini.

This path has been a space for happy encounters as well as collaborations with masters and players of those various arts.

The outcome of this progression emerged during 2013, when Jean-Charles launched the Maragno design project and committed to keep on taking it to a higher level.
