TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

This letter is in support of Cory Varland for employment consideration. I have known Cory for three years and he has been a student in three of my design classes in the graphic design program at Boise State University. During the time that I have known Cory I have gained an enormous amount of respect for him as a student and person. I cannot say enough about his attitude; he is mature, positive, motivated, disciplined and very demanding in what he expects from himself.

Cory was an excellent design student who has sought to fully understand the fundamentals and principles covered in the design classes and then applied them with a high degree of creativity and originality. He was tenacious in seeking solutions to whatever problems were presented in the class assignments and able to organize and present complex information clearly. Cory possessed extreme flexibility in his ability to change direction on a project if his course of action did not lead to a successful conclusion to a problem. He did an excellent job of synthesizing what he learned on each project in a course and then applied it conceptually to the next project with minimal feedback. Cory was both insightful and intellectually inquiring in the class discussions. He communicated his ideas very clearly and comprehended both the written and oral course content. I saw how committed he was to create the best solution he was capable of and did so with a high degree of creativity and conceptual development. Cory can come across as a very quiet or reserved person. But when it is important he can and does express himself and assert his ideas. He is a very detailed person but also sees the “big picture.”

On a personal level Cory really cared about his fellow students and helped them at every opportunity. He is extremely dedicated to furthering his professional growth. Cory has been involved with client related work while in school and participated in the AIGA student-mentoring program, where students are matched with designers. Cory is capable and very flexible designer with tremendous illustration skills as well.

I unconditionally recommend Cory Varland for any position he applies for and feel that any organization that would employ him would greatly benefit from that decision. Please feel free to call me at 208 426.3995 if you whish any further information.

Sincerely,

John Francis

To Whom it May Concern:

It is with great pleasure to recommend Cory Varland. Cory has been with Bodies in Motion since March of 2011. I know that Cory will make an excellent addition to any team he joins. He brings a great attitude to the work environment.

At Bodies in Motion, we hold our team to a very high standard of excellence. We have a unique hiring process that requires a candidate to solve 3 difficult logic questions, all which can be solved through a resourceful demeanor on Google, and an audition performing the Jedi from our Star Wars birthday party skit. The process is designed to eliminate people that lack self discipline, and to capture a person that can think on their feet and under pressure. In my opinion, if we hire someone, there is a lot to be said about the person.
Cory has not only fulfilled our expectations as a team member, but has exceeded them. He is tremendously polite to customers and all other team members. He carries a positive attitude that is infectious.

Cory also had the unique opportunity to learn about the business mechanics of Bodies in Motion. At Bodies in Motion, we feel it’s important for employees to understand the financial health of a company as well as its goals, and all the levers that affect these things. In fact, we implemented a program called The 4 Disciplines of Execution, in which Cory was a big part of. I feel this taught many of our employees to think and care like the owner of a company. Because of this, Cory also brings with him an understanding of business… a quality that we wished all employees came with.

We are sad to see Cory leave Bodies in Motion, but we’re also extremely excited to be able to contribute to his job experience. And, we know that he will be a great asset to the next team he joins!

Respectfully,
