Original Vermont oil landscapes, watercolor botanical garden art, watercolor illustrations and miniature art along with her sculpted custom garden woodland fairy houses, functional art, cottage painted furniture and botanical natural cotton hand painted pillows available for sale in her whimsical one of a kind shop Between The Weeds.

My work with the mystical magical elements that live in nature is infused in the creation of my sculpted woodland fairy houses and fairy furniture. Each sculpted fairy house is blessed with fairy magic and come with there own fairy bio. One of a kind unique and whimsical make these woodland fairy houses great for all ages.

Painted furniture, painted furnishings and painted nature boxes I think everyone should have at least one functional painted work of art in their home. I specialize in one of a kind painted by hand nature design work. Please check out the Painted Furniture Studio for new products to buy and projects I am working on.

It does not matter if you need a one of a kind custom sculpted fairy house for the fairies or hand painted furniture functional art work for your home or a nature inspired original watercolor oil painting for your inner spirit. What matters to me is as you browse through my studio I inspire delight and spread some joy your way. I create my work with the love I have for nature and it is something I like to share. Buy my art and I am thrilled, delighted and the circle completes itself, though never necessary.

Enjoying my work is the only requirement needed when visiting Laurie Rohner Studio so let me introduce myself, I am Laurie Rohner.

I like to think of myself as a creator, builder and designer of beautiful functional art. My work encompasses many different mediums including watercolor oil and acrylic painting on paper, canvas and wood. When I create my art I feel a synergy between myself and nature and that energy or spirit is infused into my work. I often think I am not the one creating but the vessel in which the creation comes forth. Please stop in my shop at Between The Weeds.

Thank you for visiting.

I sold my flower shop not by choice but due to a finger allergy I had developed from the chemicals used in the floral industry. I became curious about painted furniture and discovered the work of Annie Sloane, Jocasta Innes and MacKenzie-Childs. They inspired me to unpacked my brushes and develop my own furniture to creatively paint. The first big piece of equipment was a Delta Unisaw and my new career was launched. But my Delta 16″ band saw is my most cherished piece of equipment because my Dad bought it for me. My Dad could not understand why a girl would want such a thing but he supported me and my decisions, always. It was the last act of love he gave me before I lost him to dementia.

After Dad passed I felt my adventurous side kick in to explore and live in a new place. Vermont was a beautiful fit. I am born under the sign of the crab, a Moon child and we love our families. When Mom developed debilitating RA there was no question in my mind for her to come along on this new adventure. What a blast. I think fairies are in abundance in Vermont.

I opened a gallery and studio shop called Whitefield and Mom ran the shop. Not many people would shake up their world at 78 young but she could not have been happier. I felt absolutely blessed seeing her so content. For myself owning a place in the mountains, living close to nature and opening Whitefield’s was absolute joy. Short-lived; a few years later I sold Whitefield to care for my mother who suddenly developed a rare form of cancer. A lesson to live life in the now and love the moment you are in. If I had thought what if? we would never have had a few years of wow.

There are energies that surround you helping you live with purpose and can heal you. It is important you are in a place that comforts you and re-energizes your very being. When I left Vermont, I left my purpose, my joy, the healing energy from nature behind and my life has never been the same, though necessary. I am grateful that I cared for such a beautiful soul and wonderful friend at the end of her life. I understand so much more from my experiences. I understand the loving energy of a creative act is placed inside an artist work. It is the soulful gift from an artist to the client or customer and it is something special, uniquely its own and cherished. I know for my own work whether it is a painting or painted furniture or fairy house I am placing within the work my gift to share with you.

Nature has always spoken to me. Through long walks in the woods, planting a cottage garden or sitting meditating under a tree, the whispers of the natural world speak to me. I have sat quietly in the woods, within minutes animals would start to appear, investigating this new smell, what is it? If I sat very still not long a chipmunk would come and sit on my knee or birds would fly very close to land in a branch along side me. I have cherished memories of those days and my walks with my Mom and the dogs (always very large Standard Poodles) in the woods. We never knew what we would discover, maybe an undiscovered single wild Lady’s Slipper under a hemlock tree which to our delight happened early one spring morning. No matter what the problem after an afternoon or morning in the woods and nature, all would be well.

For the next several years I traveled many roads and learned so much about this human experience. Honestly nature has brought me back to discovering the me inside. I live in a world filled with fairies and sprites and creature unseen, with ancestors of yesterday’s and of tomorrow’s and the ever connection to Spirit.

May I simply say, welcome to my whimsical creative studio of Painted Furniture, I am Laurie Rohner, the creative artist behind Between the Weeds, Laurie Rohner Studio and Painted Furniture Studio. I am blessed with a gift and hopefully you enjoy my work.

Where I am now with my creative process?

I am studying to expand and enrich my art and designs with new techniques and processes. I am developing a new line of woodland fairy houses. I am working with a technique using watercolor and gouaches on furniture and hope to perfect it soon.

I received my BA in Studio Arts, where I studied the fine art of printmaking painting and interior design. My very first love was and still is watercolor paintings. Andrew Wyeth’s watercolors and Redoute’s illustrations inspire my work. My work experience includes working closely with an interior designer at Sotheby's in NYC for restoration of painted chairs.

My current obsessions include: natural history, anatomy, garden maps, archeology, botany, fairies, avian anatomy, bird nest study, wallpaper, calligraphy and patterns.

I have brought my shop Between The Weeds to my studios at Laurie Rohner Studio and here at Painted Furniture Studio. Between The Weeds formed as a vision and dream rooted in Vermont. It is how I view nature as I look between the weeds of life because beauty is found everywhere in nature. A weed is just as beautiful as a garden rose. Sometimes a wildflower is hidden in the blades of grass.

I am found everyday in the studio and work alongside with Spirit, my faithful spirit guides and the Divine Universe.
I hope you enjoy my collection of work. I am grateful for the opportunity to share it with you! Read Less
