My name is Mykola Kornilov. I am an artist and an architect, a traveler, a researcher, a thinker, an inventor. I was born in Ukraine (Sumy) on June 8, 1985. Since childhood I started traveling, therefore travel is an integral and important part of my life. My father served in the army (was a Soviet soldier), so our family moved a lot. From the end of 1985 until 1990 we lived in Czech Republic (Frenštát pod Radhoštěm). 1990-1992 We live in Russia (Nizhny Novgorod). Since 1992 we live in Ukraine (Sumy), where I studied Art in Children's Art School and in Traditional Art School. From 2007 to 2013 I lived in Kiev (Ukraine) where I studied architecture. I worked in Ukraine for 5 years as an architect in different architecture studios. For a short time I lived in Sweden (Stockholm) and Norway (Oslo). At the end of 2014, after a trip to Portugal in 2013 (seeing the ocean for the first time) my wife and I moved to Spain which had never been before. Murcia was our first city where we stayed and where we lived and worked. But the absence of a normal cultural life and distance from the sea led us to move to the city, which would combine these qualities. In June 2016 I moved to Barcelona. Today I continue to live and work here.
I have two university degrees, a degree in arts, in which I trained as a painter (decorative and traditional art) and another in the field of architecture (architecture of buildings and structures). Therefore circle of my interests always develops around ARCHITECTURE and ART. The 6 lust years I dedicat to the architectural project. Parallel to the ordinary architectural work in various architectural offices (ordinary in the sense almost of nothing interesting, leading ordinary and dull projects) I develop my "personal way" where I participated in various architectural and art competitions.
Product of this clean process. Loneliness as a need to communicate with oneself. I am interested to be alone with the object of interest to me, whether your own thoughts, impressions, moods or real things as person, building, space, landscape, etc. and fix it on the surface. Surface of possibility, when you start to experiment and play with reality through drawing that open the doors of your imagination and fantasy. Endless variations of lines, curves, shapes, shades and colors. Another world. As Paul Klee said “Drawing is taking a line for a walk. Drawing has always been something very personal, intimate for me. For this, I am looking for secluded places where I would not be in access. My work is the product of this clean process. Where I am an object.
Recording device. Paper as a witness to the presence at that moment. image as a product of the contact of man and reality or imagination. Paper - recording device. and the image is everything you see, think, feel or experience. I don't copy an object I capture moments, leave a trace of my presence at the moment of the image of something. I record the time through using the image. I record from life through drawing.
Presant. Establishing contact with reality, with real reality, concentrating attention on the present. Drawing help to live the moment of own life.
I appreciate the traditional (authentic) architecture and manual work. I like old villages, towns and small towns for their human scale. Where everything is within pedestrian accessibility, a minimum of cars, lots of greenery and parks, nature and animals peacefully co-exist with the city and people. The ideal city is a city that does not generate waste, does not consume oil and coal, plastic. The city is not consuming but giving. I investigate the city as an environment where many changes occur at high speed. I am interested in the evolution of the environment, the loss of historical ties and the historical memory of the place. I'm looking for an answer. What are the consequences of these changes?
Also I am interested in architectural objects that have not been created by the architect, that have no cultural or historical value, but carry the own flavor of a particular creator, such as the pigeon houses, sheds, buildings in ruins converted into housing, squatting , and etc. The human creativity that goes unnoticed and that will not be recognized by anyone. It will only remain in the abstract memory of the universe. Read Less
