After graduating from Volgograd University in Russia with a printmaking and illustration degree, I moved to America to continue my journeys in art. I brought my friends, Chagall and Kandinsky with me. I have been drawing and painting my Russian fantasies and pretty dreams since I was a five year old child. Bright lights. Bright color. Happiness, love and joy. My family has encouraged me all the way and I continue to put my visions in paint on canvas.
My Years of art education, being surrounded by the art crowds and traveling around the world helped me to become what I am.
I'm fascinated with what I create. My painting brings me peace and happiness. Each piece has a story behind it. Sometimes it's a great weekend or a great emotion. And sometimes it comes from a dream or a book. Usually at the beginning I don't know exactly how the work is going to look at the end, I just know what I want to express. Hours of work and thought bring me to places that I haven't been before. I love the moment and the incomparable satisfaction when I feel that the artwork is almost done. Often people who look at my art tell me fascinating stories that are different from mine. I find it very interesting. I love to hear their interpretation of my pictures. I want my artworks to bring the audience varying thoughts and emotions.
My three favorite media are printmaking, acrylic painting and computer design.
I was creating my etchings and monoprints in the early days of 2000-2005. Work of that period looks darker which is normal for a traditional printmaking school. I'm considering coming back to these media sometime soon and working hard on getting a printing press and other equipment.
2005-2010 brought me to the job of computer advertising, a world that didn't leave much time for my painting. In 2010 I moved to California. It was a big change for me. I realized that it would be a good time for me to work on achieving my goals. My life made a turn on another 90 degrees, I started to explore new media and do what I always wanted to do. All of these paintings that you see here today are from 2010-2011. One of my friends, Olga Chernov who is also an art critic said, "You might compare Katia Goa's art with looking under a microscope at a drop of water. All of the smallest details open up in their meaning and come alive when you look closely at them. Her canvases are breathing and they look at you with hundreds of curious eyes. Lots of strands tangled together. Life experience, dreams, impressions and hopes. They give you at the same time an alarming and cozy felling, the same way the child looks in the dark, giving to every shadow a shape and a story. Fate and destiny." Read Less
