Jonathan Holburn

Post Graduate Graphic Designer

I have graduated from Falmouth University with a BA Hons in
Graphic Design. My mind is open to the possible pathways I could
take. My skills are focused on branding and identity, typography and
the design of packaging. I am continuing to learn and improve these
skills now that I have left University. I use my skills and have a good
eye for detail when it comes to finishing the design of a project.

I enjoy drawing and developing my ideas by sketching them on
paper rather than just using electronic methods. I’m a photographic
enthusiast and love taking coastal and landscape images, and
cultural city life.

Aside from my life as a graphic designer, I am also a sports person
playing volleyball, football, kite-surfing.

Work Experience

Biles Hendry

Graphic Designer Intern

I worked as part of a creative team as an intern to help their day to day
studio work with different live projects. Working at a faster pace with
different task to help out the designers in their project including
creating a BOP design of crisp pack, creating the concept packaging design
for clients and helping with other designers on their packaging projects.
Also I have learned a new skill of being a Artwork designer for two days to
create a packaging using their brands guide and their terminology to create
a packaging layout to be ready for printing.
It showed how I wasable to cope with different tasks on their day to day
project and juggling with different project that needed to be done. Also
working on the Live brief project to rebrand the clients project with new
concept visual designs.

Frank Brands

Graphic Designer Intern

Date: 3rd to 7th October 2016 at Frank Brands (Bristol)

This is my third placement to experience working in a small studio that specialises in
Branding and Packaging. I found the experience different from Gendall because their
thinking process is different between projects.

I worked on three projects for their clients on Branding, packaging and publishing
design. The variety of work helped me to gain insight into the differing types of work in a studio and that it can be necessary to change focus between projects in a short time.

Gendall Studio

Graphic Designer Intern

Date: 1st to 12 August 2016 at Gendall Studio (Falmouth)

This is my second placement at Gendall Studio to see how different of working in small studio compare to Carter Wong. I found that it was different because they are small team but they have big clients based locally such as Eden Project, Pendennis and Sharp’s Brewery. They also have clients outside of Cornwall.

I worked on two live projects in an early stage and helped other designers with my
concept ideas for the live projects. I learnt lots thing about how the studio runs with
a fast pace of work. This is a different experience because I was working on two Live
projects during those two weeks of placement. I took the valuable experience from
Gendall Studio and I enjoyed working at Gendall Studio where I understood how to
become a better designer by taking valuable feedback from them. This will help me to
become a better designer for future placement or leading to a job.
