My client, a major retailer in San Fran, is looking for a Senior UX/VIsual Designer to join their creative team! The Senior UX Visual Designer will work primarily on the Loyalty work-stream, integrating with the e-commerce platform and physical store experience (i.e. signage and applications for store employees). Strong capabilities in Visual Design specific to User Experience are essential, the designer will be responsible for creating visual design layouts, low fidelity prototypes and possibly some printed material such as signage. The Senior UX Visual Designer will report into the UX Creative Director and work closely with a cross-functional team including an Interaction Designer, Design System Lead, Product Manager, Business Analyst, Consumer Insights Manager, Strategy Manager, Developers, and a Scrum master in a fast-paced Agile environment. Interaction with other business groups will be regular, such as brand design, brand marketing and web production as well as their leadership across multiple sister brands within the organization.
Minimum of 5 years of professional UX Visual Design experience
Strong Visual Design and Graphic Design skills, demonstrable experience with User Experience design specifically.
Expert in Sketch and Zeplin
Proficient in prototyping tools such as InVision, Axure, Flinto, or Principal
Basic familiarity with HTML and CSS, enough to understand if what you are designing can be built. More experience hands-on with HTML and CSS is always a plus but you are not expected to code.
E-commerce experience is a plus but not required.
Previous experience working side-by-side with developers to implement a digital product. Accountability to review and sign-off on the work implemented by the developer, ensuring it matches the designs created and/or managing the discussion with the team and UX Directors on deviations based on input during the development process.
Extensive e-commerce experience
Previous experience with transactional applications including loyalty, payment, CRM, SASS, etc.
Experience with research and testing of designs or prototypes to inform the direction of the solution to be implemented. Leveraging testing to validate assumptions.
Experience working with a Design System such as those created by Google, Walmart, Intuit, SalesForce, Ebay, Yahoo.
Knowledge or understanding of Atomic Design
Should include examples of work plus communication describing the project goal as well as the processes involved in generating the solution. Any information regarding research, testing, and thought process is good to see but not required, I will be asking about that in the interview process so they will need to be able to speak to it.
Difference between good and great candidate:
Capable of understanding the business need and the user need and translating both into an elegant solution that solves for both parties. And an understanding of how to learn the user need (rather than inferring or using personal bias).
Capable of both advocating for the user while understanding where to compromise to meet business goals.
Able to understand the short term and long term goals of a project and has patience to work with the cross functional team and a large set of stakeholders over a longer period of time (1yr + possibly) on short term wins to enable long term wins.
Strong communication and presentation skills to various stakeholders from peers to brand marketing partners, to VP and up.
Team player who is comfortable with daily standups and actively engaged in regular meetings to define the solution together. Not concerned with what the individual creates and delivers as much as what the outcome is of the team in which she or he works and if it met the goal.
Able to talk in terms of data and metrics. For instance, the design for this message bar helped increase revenue by 2% or generated $20 Million in revenue last quarter when we changed it from white to black. Other possible metrics: clicks per visit, average order size, monthly active users.
Active participation contributing to a Design System, Pattern Library, Living Style guide, or Component Library.
