Teaching Artists, Graphic Design/Photography/Design
Project AIRE (Artistic Influence, Revitalizing Education) is a New York City based arts education program designed to use multiple art forms to enhance literacy, make academic connections and influence community involvement. In collaboration with NYC Dept. of Education administrators our teaching artist implement a customized arts curriculum designed to effectively serve the school's population. While following the Common Core Standards, NYC's Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and the NYS Learning Standards for the Arts, Project AIRE residencies offer introductory yet comprehensive training in Dance, Theater, Music, and the Visual Arts.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Purelements: An Evolution in Dance, Inc. is seeking Teaching Artists for its Project AIRE program for the upcoming 2022/2023 school year. We are currently accepting resumes in the disciplines of Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts and the sub-genres within each.
Dance – African, Stepping, Jazz, Modern, Afro-Caribbean, Capoeira, Swing, Hip Hop
Music - Chorus, Band, African Drumming, Percussion, Musical Theater, Music Production
Theater - Spoken Word, Storytelling, Performance Skill Building, Plays, Musical Theater
Visual Arts - Sketching, Painting, Mask Making, Graffiti, Cartooning, Film Making, Wearable Art, Costume and Fashion Design (access to sewing machines are not guaranteed)
We are seeking talented, highly motivated and engaging individuals who work well with youth, parents and school administrators. With provided admin support and professional development, a Purelements teaching artist should be able to use their life and professional artistic skills to build structured learning experiences needed to bridge the exposure gap in urban communities. Project AIRE teaching artists are expected to create project-based curricula, provide lesson plans and implement specific program standards designed to enhance the lives of their students and the overall school community.
-have at least three years’ experience teaching students in urban city schools
-have at least three years’ experience as a professional artist in the field they are applying for
-be at least 21 years of age
-have a HS diploma or it's equivalent and at least 2yrs. of college experience
-be highly organized and have basic computer experience
-be able to commit to working with students from September 2022 thru June 2023
-be willing to work in other boroughs, even though most of our programming is currently in East and Central Brooklyn
-be amiable to fingerprinting and security clearance by NYC Dept. of Education video recordings of applicants and students at work are a plus (youtube links are acceptable)
If hired, teaching artists must attend all professional development trainings prior to job placement.
