Personal Endeavors

As a youth I participated in the Boy Scouts of America program and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from college I began working with my local troop. I am currently serving as the President of the Young Men's organization in the local branch of the church I belong to. My responsibility is for all the young men between ages 12 to 18. Our current group includes 12 young men. Our youth program includes, but is not limited to the Boy Scout program. Our troop activities, the boys rank advancement and an annual week long summer camp, are under my supervision. This gives me a chance to teach the young men in my area skills that I learned as a youth and continue to use as an adult. Our activities include canoeing, white water rafting, archery, marksmanship, wilderness survival, camping skills, outdoor cooking, fishing, hiking, bicycle maintenance, career exploration, personal fitness, money management, project planning, and community service. After a year of college, I served a two year service mission in southern Brazil for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I received two months of language training and became fluent in Portuguese after an additional 4 months in the country. Working with a companion, I taught and served 6 and a half days a week, with a half day for leisure. Our objectives were to help people improve their lives through the teachings of Jesus Christ, and to give general service to the community.

While we reported weekly to mission supervisors, our daily plans and activities were left to our decision. During an 6 month period I was responsible for a group of 8 other missionaries.
