Pigment and dilutions spill beyond the confines of their surfaces onto the studio floor. Giving materials the freedom to react to each other and unforeseen variables, I challenge myself to deal with unexpected consequences. This process coerces an awareness of new possibilities challenging existing paradigms and the choices that construct them. During the making of my paintings, I am constantly breaking and remaking my own systems in response to an evolving understanding of how my materials are reacting to the fixed laws of natural phenomena. My choice of materials is informed by obsessive observations of everyday life. Trips to the grocery store procure materials that nourish the surfaces of my paintings, and the crunching sounds of the landscape beneath my feet calls attention to curious possibilities. Seductive visual qualities of color and form evaporate and leave the viewer to reconstruct the events that led to these desiccated landscapes. Read Less
